Tyson Degenhart: All-time leading scorer. Two-time Academic All-American.

In what feels like the final page of a heroic saga, Boise State basketball forward Tyson Degenhart has once again etched his name into the chronicles of greatness—this time not with a last-second bucket, but with elite academic excellence. Selected by College Sports Communicators, Degenhart was officially named to the 2024-25 Academic All-America Second Team, a prestigious honor that marks the conclusion of one of the most decorated careers in program history.

Degenhart’s Academic Honor: Another Jewel in the Crown

In a class of champions where intellect meets athletic prowess, Degenhart stands alone atop the Mountain West. A finance major boasting a 3.92 cumulative GPA, he was the only Mountain West player recognized on this year's Academic All-America roster. This marks his second consecutive year earning the honor, he was named First Team in 2023-24—making him the first Boise State player in history to receive multiple Academic All-America selections.

He joins Matt Nelson (2008) as the only Broncos ever named to a CSC All-America team, cementing his dual-threat status as both a scholar and a warrior on the court.

Breaking Records, Building Legacy: A Final Season for the Ages

Like a hero protagonist stepping into his final arc, Degenhart’s 2024-25 campaign was nothing short of legendary. He averaged 18.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting an elite 52.6 percent from the field, placing him among the most efficient forwards in all of Division I. In fact, only nine players in the nation managed to hit those marks.

Even more striking, Degenhart scored in double figures in 36 of Boise State’s 37 games, tying Tennessee’s Chaz Lanier for the most such performances in the country. He had 15 games with 20 or more points, finishing with the third-highest scoring average in the Mountain West.

A Career Etched in Blue and Orange Glory

Degenhart exits Boise State not just as a fan favorite, but as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,037 points. He delivered two 500-point seasons, capped by a jaw-dropping 676-point senior year, which set the single-season scoring record for the Broncos.

But scoring wasn’t his only weapon. The 6-foot-8 Spokane native also hauled in over 700 career rebounds, making him just the third player in Mountain West history to record both 2,000+ points and 700+ boards. Over the last five seasons, only 13 players in all of Division I have reached that rare milestone.

A model of consistency, Degenhart is also one of just two players in Mountain West history to shoot 50 percent or better in all four seasons, with a minimum of 200 field goal attempts each year. That level of efficiency and longevity is nearly unheard of at the collegiate level.

A Shining Example of What It Means to Be a Bronco

Three times selected First-Team All-Mountain West, Degenhart’s impact will be felt long after the final buzzer of his college career. He was the reliable anchor, the emotional core, and the ever-evolving weapon Boise State needed in its rise as a national contender.

His academic accolades only further his legend, a blueprint for what it means to excel in every phase of the student-athlete journey.

As Degenhart rides off into the next chapter, his name will resonate in ExtraMile Arena like a legend of old. Future Broncos will walk past his records and remember the forward who never took a game, or a classroom, for granted.
