"The turf has always been a symbol of who we are. But starting next season... we’re turning up the heat." — BSU Associate Athletic Director Kai Fakenama

In a move shaking the core of Bronco Nation, Boise State University announced plans this morning to replace its legendary blue turf at Albertsons Stadium with a brand-new bright orange surface—the first of its kind in the FBS.

Dubbed Project Citrus, the initiative is part of a wider "brand reclamation effort" meant to align more closely with BSU’s true school colors: orange and blue. But this time, orange is taking center stage.

"We love the blue turf legacy," said BSU spokesperson Tara Prankston at a press conference held under an orange-tinted tent. "But after 25 years of dominance in blue, it’s time to show the nation we bleed orange—and now, we’ll play on it too."

What Will the Orange Turf Look Like?

Early concept mockups reveal a blazing orange field with blue end zones and white yard lines. A newly redesigned Bronco logo, featuring flame effects, will be painted at midfield.

"It looks like the field was forged in the spirit realm of Mount Potato," said sideline reporter Kazuki Blitz. "It’s like the turf got hit with a Level 3 Fire and never recovered."

Boise State claims the orange turf will improve visibility for televised games and confuse opponents used to the blue, noting it’s a psychological tactic borrowed from advanced sports analytics and some science.

Fan Reactions Mixed

While some students celebrated the change, longtime fans and alumni flooded Bronco social channels with disbelief.

"This has to be an April Fools’ joke," tweeted user @TurfTruther88.

"I bought a blue turf swimsuit for nothing," said one angry email from a mascot enthusiast named Darnell the Duck.

Blue Turf Legacy to Be Preserved

To soften the blow, BSU plans to preserve sections of the iconic turf for fans to purchase. Reporter Riko Star confirmed she'll be keeping a square beneath her pillow for "turf dream energy."

Final Thoughts from Boise

As the sun sets over the Treasure Valley and paints the foothills a warm orange hue, fans are left wondering: is this real life, or just April Fools' energy?

Whether you're for it or against it... you just got Turf’d.

Editor's Note: This story is part of our April 1st special coverage. No, the blue turf isn't going anywhere. Probably.
